Three people in hospital after traffic accident in Vienna

VIENNA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, three people were hospitalized as a result of a two-vehicle crash in the city of Vienna on Saturday, July 6.

Officers responded to the intersection of Teelin Road and Herder Road in the town of Vienna at around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the first vehicle – later identified as 36-year-old Kristen Pelton of Blossvale – was traveling westbound on Teelin Road and allegedly failed to yield the right of way.

As Pelton entered the intersection, her vehicle struck a motorcycle driven by 60-year-old Mark Pickard of Canastota. The impact threw Pickard into the air and struck his head on the windshield of Pelton’s vehicle.

Mark Pickard was taken to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. His passenger, 59-year-old Penny Pickard, was taken to Oneida Hospital for evaluation after complaining of leg pain. Pelton was taken to Rome Hospital for evaluation after complaining of chest pain.

Pelton received a citation for failing to yield at a stop sign. This citation may be returned to the City of Vienna Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Vienna Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance from Rome and North Shore Ambulance from Cleveland.
