Kentucky mother arrested after baby found dead in garbage bag

The 22-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend, just days after she told police about the birth of her child.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – A Louisville woman was arrested over the weekend after her newborn baby was found dead in a garbage bag in her car.

According to an arrest warrant, Louisville Metro police officers responded to a call in the 700 block of Zorn Avenue on Saturday after a baby was found hidden in a bag in a closet. Officers found a bag in a closet that was believed to be bloodstained and infested with flies.

The child’s mother, Daira Meijia Aguilar, 22, told police she placed the body in the trunk of her car before they arrived.

She told police she gave birth to her child on July 2, wrapped it in a blanket and a garbage bag, and put the bag in the closet. She was arrested and charged with desecration of a corpse.

On Sunday, LMPD detectives found the baby’s body in the trunk of a car that Aguilar said belonged to her. The baby was wrapped in a blanket and placed in a garbage bag. According to an arrest warrant, the baby appeared to be full-term and in the early stages of decomposition.
