Daniel Mercado charged with death threats against police officers – NBC Boston

A New Hampshire man faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening to kill police officers in Nashua by shooting at them, hitting them with his vehicle and throwing explosives at them.

Daniel Mercado, 24, of Nashua was arrested Friday on two counts of menacing, making false statements (explosives/bomb threats), failure to obey orders and reckless driving.

Nashua police said they received a report Wednesday that Mercado had posted threats on social media implying he would kill Nashua police officers by shooting them, hitting them with his vehicle and throwing explosives at them while driving around in his car.

Police said they located Mercado and his car and attempted to stop him, but he fled, prompting police to launch a chase into Massachusetts, where he was taken into custody.

At this point, police learned that Mercado had also claimed to have planted timed bombs in Nashua and neighboring Merrimack that were set to go off on July 4. Nashua Police Detectives investigated and were able to confirm that his statements about the bombs were untrue.

Mercado was held in preventive custody and his arraignment was scheduled for Monday afternoon in Nashua District Court.
