Man from Alda arrested for evading arrest, child abuse and 11th time driving while license revoked | 1340 KGFW

GRAND ISLAND – An Alda man was arrested after attempting to flee from police officers Friday evening, July 5.

According to Grand Island Police, at 11:18 p.m., officers observed 37-year-old Don Casey Casares at the Super Saver location on 2nd Street exiting his 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with no license plate on the front and an old or fake license plate on the back.

A review of the records revealed that the license plate belonged to a 2012 Dodge Durango.

Officers attempted to contact Casares, who then sped off at high speed down 2nd Street in his vehicle without his lights on.

There were two men in the vehicle, one of whom was apparently Casares’ minor son. The other passenger got out on the passenger side and was almost abandoned by Casares, according to GIPD.

Casares drove at a high rate of speed across the 2nd St. overpass without headlights or taillights. Officers noted that the area included three hotels, a food truck, and a gas station with heavy pedestrian traffic.

Casares was later pulled over and charged with fleeing to avoid arrest. He was charged with driving while suspended – count 11, willful child abuse, improper vehicle lighting, willful reckless driving and false license plate.
