The two men, who according to police know each other, were involved in an argument with several people. At least one child was present at the time.

Burns was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. Tomasky was charged with first-degree assault, among other things. He was held overnight and will be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.

It is still unclear where in the park the stabbing took place. Park officials said the park will reopen for normal hours on Sunday. The motive for the stabbing is unclear. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact First Squad investigators at 631-854-8152.
