Man arrested twice in one day after leaving prison and then attempting to run over someone

Ozark County, Missouri. – A man was arrested twice in one day after leaving prison and attempting to run over another person with his truck.

According to a recent post from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office, local resident Brian Cuthbertson was released from jail at 9 a.m. on May 10, 2024, after being arrested and briefly held on a warrant for a probation violation. After his release, he walked back to his home in Taney County. There, he became intoxicated. At 7 p.m., he drove drunk to an acquaintance’s home in Isabella. When he got there, he accused the man at the residence of theft and repeatedly put him in a chokehold. The man was able to resist. Cuthbertson got back in his vehicle and accelerated until he drove into the victim’s truck, causing an estimated several thousand dollars in damage. He then backed up and attempted to run the victim over with his vehicle twice before driving away.

Cuthbertson crashed his vehicle on a nearby low water bridge, became stuck, and immediately left the scene on foot. Both police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were called to the crash. When they arrived, an investigation was launched, which led to his arrest at 9:00 p.m. that same day, May 10, 2024. In an interview about the incident, Cuthbertson stated that he went to the house to help a woman who was there exit the house, and when he arrived, the man pulled him into the house. He said he put the man in a chokehold in defense. He got into his truck, and as he drove away, the man had a chainsaw chain and swung it at his truck. He then admitted to attempting to run over the male victim. He stated that as he was driving away, he thought he heard gunshots, so he ducked in his truck and looked away from the road, causing his vehicle to crash.

He remains in custody at the Ozark County Jail and is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree criminal damage, armed criminal action, negligent and careless operation of a motor vehicle resulting in an accident, hit and run, and dumping of garbage (first offense).

The officer who wrote the post had a sense of humor, adding the following at the end: “This story might make you think that the beds in the county jail must be fantastic if people can’t get a single night’s sleep before returning to them, but trust us, that’s not the case. We suspect that it’s actually the pajamas we provide that must be so irresistible.”
