5 Atlanta Falcons a key to ending seven-year playoff drought

For the Atlanta Falcons to make the playoffs, Morris must do exactly what got the veteran coach elected to Atlanta. The fact that the Rams are making the playoffs and playing anything close to an effective defense is impressive considering the pieces the DC has received.

The Rams’ playoff run last season is a testament to their DC’s creativity and Stafford’s production. Los Angeles also had a solid playoff run despite having less talent. That’s the version of Morris Atlanta needs if they want to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

While Atlanta doesn’t have a player with Aaron Donald’s potential, they do have more reliable players than the Rams did at the start of the year. Morris has plenty of resources to work with and should focus primarily on designing schemes and creating pass pressure.

If Morris can repeat that performance, this team might be able to win a round or two. It’s hard to see San Francisco pulling away, but the rest of the field seems open. Raheem Morris was the right choice for Atlanta. Proving that will start with getting the most out of the defense and guiding Atlanta to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
