Man from Madadeni convicted of raping his teenage neighbor

NPA regional office (KZN division) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the girl was outside on the day of the incident when the accused called her to his home and raped her.

“She told another neighbor what had happened, but the incident was not immediately reported. The girl’s mother was later told what had happened.”

The accused was arrested and the girl was taken to the Madadeni Thuthuzela Care Centre where she received the necessary psychosocial help, counselling and support.

In order to increase the sentence, prosecutor Simphiwe Scelo Hlela cited the testimony of the mother, who said her daughter still showed signs of trauma and was constantly anxious.

The mother explained in court that the girl had to be repeatedly assured that the defendant would not return to her place of residence.

In addition to the life sentence, the court ordered that the defendant’s data be entered into the National Register of Sex Offenders.

“The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the successful conclusion of this matter as it reaffirms our commitment to curbing the scourge of gender-based violence and sexual offences. We commend the work of the Office of the Prosecutor and the SAPS,” said Ramkisson-Kara.
