Eurostar members suspend vote after improved Olympic payments

The transport union RMT has secured better and fairer Olympic payments for Eurostar staff following intensive negotiations and a vote on industrial action.

This means that the Eurostar members’ vote is over and there is no longer any dispute between RMT and management.

The continental railway company has agreed to significantly improve the bonus payments for its staff working during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

Eurostar had originally proposed a shift-based payment system, but the RMT rejected it as controversial and inadequate.

Instead, the union proposed a one-off payment after the Olympics that would cover a wider range of employees, including deputy shift managers, rostering and planning staff, and call center workers with direct customer contact.

Eurostar will now make a one-off payment of at least £650 to eligible employees to replace the shift system. This payment will be made with the September 2024 payroll.

However, staff from the head office support function are not included and Eurostar will clarify their non-inclusion in writing.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “This improved offer is testament to our persistent negotiations and the dogged determination of our members.

“We have ensured fair and appropriate reward for their hard work during the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

“With this one-off payment, we recognize the commitment of our members during this busy period and we remain committed to ensuring the best possible conditions for our members in all roles.”
