Police investigate report of shooting in West Chester Township

FIVE TODAY, LEADING. GOOD MORNING. IT’S 6 AM AND THANKS FOR BEING WITH US. I’M TIFFANY WILSON HERE WITH METEOROLOGIST KATIE DONOVAN. IF YOU LIKED YESTERDAY, I THINK YOU’LL LIKE TODAY TOO. JUST MAYBE A LITTLE WARMER. ABSOLUTELY. BUT TODAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR THE POOL. IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT. AND YOU KNOW, WE’VE GOT THE LOWER HUMIDITY AND LOTS OF SUNSHINE ALL DAY. BUT THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL CONTINUE TO RISE TOMORROW. SO IT’S REALLY GOING TO FEEL LIKE JULY WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE ON MONDAY. JUST LIKE A LITTLE FOG FORMING IN THE RIVER VALLEYS. IT’S NOT DENSE, BUT YOU’LL NOTICE IT AS YOU DRIVE AROUND. WE’VE GOT CLEAR SKIES ABOVE US AND THAT SUNSHINE WILL CONTINUE WITH US TODAY. JUST LIKE THAT WE’VE GOT 65 TEMPERATURE IN CVG, 65 TEMPERATURE, IN ANDERSON TOWNSHIP NEAR RICHMOND AND ALEXANDRIA 64 TEMPERATURE. ABOUT 65 TEMPERATURE UP IN COLERAIN IN MIDDLETOWN, NICE, COMFORTABLE 61 TEMPERATURE. AS WE START THE MORNING. LOTS OF TEMPERATURES BELOW 60 ACROSS SOUTHEAST INDIANA. THAT’S WHERE THE TEMPERATURES FEEL THE MOST REFRESHING TO START THE DAY, OWENTON WITH 65 TEMPERATURES. AND THEN BLANCHESTER AND WILMINGTON 62 TO 63 TEMPERATURES. THOSE DEW POINTS WILL CONTINUE TO REMAIN LOW THIS MORNING. THAT MEANS THE HUMIDITY WILL BE LOWER THROUGHOUT SUNDAY AS WELL. THAT’S GOING TO BE GREAT FOR THE HEAT INDEX. WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANY BIG CHANGES SO THAT’S WHAT THE 80 SHOULD ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE. AS WE READING THROUGH YOUR SUNDAY FORECAST, HIGHS TODAY WILL RISE INTO THE MID AND HIGH 80S FOR MANY COMMUNITIES. DON’T THINK WE’LL REACH 90 TODAY, BUT TOMORROW IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE FOR MANY COMMUNITIES AS THE HEAT MAY CONTINUE TO INCREASE. SO WE’LL END THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND TODAY. ANY LAST MINUTE PLANS FOR THE 4TH OF JULY YOU HAVE TODAY ARE LOOKIN’ GREAT. WE’LL HAVE SUNSHINE, MAYBE A FEW DESPERATE CLOUDS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING, BUT TEMPERATURES WILL STAY ABOVE 75 TODAY WITH ADEQUATE HUMIDITY. WE’LL TALK ABOUT THE HEAT IN THE BUILDING AND THEN THE POSSIBILITY OF TROPICAL HUMIDITY FROM BARRELS THAT IS TAKING OVER US AS WE HEAD INTO MIDWEEK, TIFFANY. KATIE, THANKS. WE’LL GET RIGHT ON TO BREAKING NEWS. A YOUNG CHILD WAS INJURED AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR OVERNIGHT. IT HAPPENED ON WEAVER ROAD NEAR OVERPASS 7175 AROUND 1 AM. THE CHILD’S AGE IS NOT KNOWN AND IT IS UNCLEAR WHY HE WALKED IN THE ROAD. WITNESSES SAY THE CHILD APPEARED TO BE ALONE. BOONE COUNTY REPORTING TELLS US HE WAS AIRBORNE TO CINCINNATI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AND THE EXTENT OF HIS INJURIES IS NOT YET KNOWN. THE DRIVER WAS PREVIOUSLY DEAD AND THE ROAD WAS CLOSED WHILE POLICE INVESTIGATED, BUT WE WERE TOLD IT WAS REOPENED AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. OTHER BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING: A MAN WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER BEING STABBED IN WEST PRICE HILL. POLICE TELL US THAT THEY WERE CALLED TO WESTMONT LANE SHORTLY AFTER 3:30 THIS MORNING AND OFFICERS FOUND THE VICTIM WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. POLICE SAY THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED A SUSPECT BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THAT PERSON IN CUSTODY YET. WE HAVE NEVER DEALED WITH THIS BEFORE. I KNOW THIS HAPPENS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE’VE HAD A MASS SHOOTING HERE. UHMWHERE, IN FLORENCE, A BIRTHDAY PARTY ENDS IN TRAGEDY AFTER A MASS SHOOTING HAPPENS IN A FLORENCE NEIGHBORHOOD. WE BROUGHT YOU THIS STORY YESTERDAY AS BREAKING NEWS, AND THIS MORNING WE LEARN MUCH MORE. WE NOW KNOW THAT SEVEN PEOPLE WERE SHOT, FOUR KILLED AND THREE MORE INJURED. FLORENCE POLICE ALSO CONFIRMED THE SHOOTER IS DEAD AFTER TURNING THE GUN ON HIMSELF. WE ALSO LEARN THE NAMES OF THOSE KILLED. POLICE IDENTIFIED THEM AS 20-YEAR-OLD SHANE MILLER, 20-YEAR-OLD HAYDEN REBECCHI, 19-YEAR-OLD DELANEY ERIE, AND 44-YEAR-OLD MELISSA PARROT. PARROT IS THE MOTHER OF THE 21-YEAR-OLD WHOSE BIRTHDAY WAS BEING CELEBRATED. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S RICHARD CHILES HAS LEAD THE COVERAGE OF THIS TRAGIC STORY AND IS LIVE WITH US ON THE LATEST GOOD MORNING, RICHARD TIFFANY, GOOD MORNING. THIS 21ST BIRTHDAY. QUICKLY BECAME TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE WHEN SHOTS RINGED OUT YESTERDAY AROUND 3 AM. TODAY WE KNOW THAT THREE PEOPLE ARE HERE AT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER. THEY WERE TRANSPORTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION BUT WERE ABLE TO STABILIZE THEIR CONDITION. FOUR MORE HAVE TRAGICALLY LOST THEIR LIVES ON RIDGECREST DRIVE AS THIS COMMUNITY NOW TRYS TO MOVE FORWARD. SHOOTING AROUND 3:00 YESTERDAY MORNING, ACCORDING TO FLORENCE POLICE. THEY SAY THE 21-YEAR-OLD PURSUING GARVEY OPENED FIRE AT THE PARTY, KILLING FOUR PEOPLE AND INJURING THREE OTHERS. JUST MINUTES EARLIER, GARVEY BEGAN SHOOTING, AND A NEIGHBOR’S SECURITY CAMERA CAUGHT GARVEY ARRESTING AS HE SPLIT THROUGH THE COMMUNITY. NOW POLICE SAY WHEN THEY ENTERED THE SCENE GARVEY HAD STILL FIRED BUT RAN OFF BEFORE HE COULD BE APPRECIATED. POLICE PURSUED GARVEY BEFORE HE CRASHED A FEW MILES SOUTH OF THE SCENE. POLICE FOUND HIM WITH A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND. GARVEY WAS TAKEN TO SAINT ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL WHERE HE DIED. POLICE AND COURT RECORDS CONFIRM GARVEY HAD TWO PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS. NEIGHBORS REMEMBERED THE VICTIMS, INCLUDING MISS MELISSA PARROT, WHOM THEY SAID WAS THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY. SHE HELD HER SON’S 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT. HE JUST TURNED 21 AND LOST HIS MOTHER AND ALMOST HIS SISTER AND A FEW FRIENDS FOR THAT. AS THE COMMUNITY OF RIDGECREST HAS CERTAINLY BEEN SHOCKED AGAIN BY THIS TRAGEDY, MISS PARROT, CERTAINLY A KEYSTONE IN THIS COMMUNITY, HAS LIVED THERE FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS AND BROUGHT SO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS COMMUNITY TOGETHER AGAIN. THIS MORNING THREE PEOPLE ARE RECOVERING FROM CRITICAL GUNSHOT WOUNDS HERE AT THE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER AND REPORTS
