Two accidents at the intersection of Rt. 370 and Rt. 38 raise safety concerns in Victory

On Sunday, emergency crews responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Routes 370 and 38. This was the second crash at that intersection on the same day and raised serious safety concerns among residents.

Green Gator News reported that Victory and Conquest fire departments, as well as CIMVAC and Fair Haven EMS, were dispatched to the scene. Emergency responders arrived promptly and worked efficiently to clear the scene. Several people involved in the accident were taken to the hospital for treatment. New York State Police were also on scene to assist with the investigation and traffic control.

The first accident of the day occurred earlier in the morning, involving two vehicles at the same intersection. The recurrence of such accidents prompted residents to demand immediate action from city, county and state authorities to address safety issues at this busy intersection.

Resident Janny Hemler-Wilson voiced her concerns, stating, “Victory Town Meeting is tomorrow at 7 p.m. A complaint has been filed with the state and we have asked the town to come up with a solution. We are starting a petition to help the board find the solution needed to begin the investigation. They have asked for letters from people who have had accidents at this intersection. Green Gator News has done a great job of getting reports out and informing people. Whatever the solution, something needs to be done!”

The petition, which aims to garner support for a formal investigation into the safety of the crossing, calls for measures to be implemented to prevent future accidents. Local residents are encouraged to share their personal experiences and concerns in letters to the city council.

The repeated accidents at the intersection of Route 370 and Route 38 have underscored the urgent need for road safety improvements, according to residents. Possible solutions discussed on social media following the recent incidents included installing traffic lights, better signage and improved road markings to improve driver visibility and alertness.
