Hurricane Beryl disrupts Houston trash collection service

The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department is announcing service interruptions for Monday, July 8.

Due to high winds and heavy rains expected from Hurricane Beryl, SWM will suspend all services, including storm debris, trash, recycling, and yard and tree waste removal operations.

Residents are advised to secure their trash and recycling containers. For more information, download the HTX Collects mobile app or contact the 3-1-1 call center. Residents can also use the 3-1-1 online portal at houstontx.gov/311 to report any storm-related concerns.

Changes to the collection schedule:

Monday July 8:

  • No collection service: All solid waste treatment facilities and administrative offices will be closed.

  • Service suspensions: All second-pass storm debris collection operations will be suspended.

Tuesday July 9:

  • Rescheduled collections: Household waste, recyclables, garden waste and tree waste will be collected on Monday.

  • Debris collection: Second-pass debris collections will resume. SWM will conduct city-wide damage assessments from Tropical Storm Beryl.

Wednesday July 10:

  • Regular collections: SWM will collect household waste, recyclables, yard waste and tree waste on Tuesday.

Thursday July 11:

  • Resumption of service: All SWM collection services will resume their regular schedule. Due to the high volume of tree waste, expect additional delays for the remainder of the week.
