Shooting in Carrick leaves one dead

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man is dead after a shooting in Carrick on Saturday night.

Police believe the man was shot while trying to enter a home. Neighbors who spoke to KDKA-TV describe this part of Carrick as peaceful, a place where people know each other and hang out. Many of them were surprised by what they saw Saturday night.

“I was watching TV and I saw a lot of red lights,” said neighbor Bill Kelley. “And I thought, ‘That’s either the fire department or an ambulance.’ I went to my door and looked up to check on my friends. I saw their police cars parked in front of their house.”

Pittsburgh police said they responded to the intersection of Olivet Avenue and Antenor Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

“I was hoping he would survive or make it, but every time the paramedics tried to treat him, he would fall over and say he couldn’t breathe or he was dizzy,” Kelley said.

The man did not survive and died of his injuries in hospital shortly afterwards. Pittsburgh police said they found a crime scene in the 300 block of nearby Overbrook Boulevard.

Police believe the victim may have been trying to enter a home when he was shot.

Kelley and others KDKA-TV spoke to say the man came down Antenor Avenue and knocked on a neighbor’s house seeking help. They said all the activity on their street Saturday night was unusual for them.

“This is very unusual,” Kelley said. “We’ve been here for 17 years. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this on this street.”

We do not yet have any information about which house the man was shot in. The investigation is ongoing.
