US Marine killed in two-vehicle collision on Douglas Drive

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – An active-duty U.S. Marine was killed Sunday evening in a two-vehicle collision on a major roadway in Oceanside, police confirmed.

The accident was reported around 7:50 p.m. in the area of ​​the intersection of Douglas Drive and N River Road, just north of State Route 76, Oceanside police told FOX 5/KUSI on the scene.


Two vehicles were involved in the accident, a motorcycle and a white Volkswagen sedan. What caused the collision between the two vehicles is currently unclear.

The motorcyclist, identified by police as a Marine in his 20s, suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 65-year-old woman, reported no injuries.

Further details were not immediately available, but Oceanside police said driving under the influence is not considered a factor in the incident as it involves the Volkswagen driver.

Following the accident, all southbound lanes of Douglas Drive were temporarily closed. As of 10:30 p.m., one lane remains closed for on-site authorities to investigate.
