Authorities have identified the man who was shot after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem confirmed that 27-year-old Burnell Gould is the man who died in the fatal incident. Police reported that shots were fired at a residence on West 10th Avenue Friday morning.

Police were notified by an unidentified woman that her ex-boyfriend was aggressively knocking on her door. Gould then entered the home and was immediately shot by another man inside the home. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Although no arrests have been made yet, social media has accused the ex-girlfriend – whose name has not been released by authorities – of orchestrating Gould’s shooting.

“SHE CALLED HIM KNOWING SHE HAD ANOTHER MAN THERE… say it with me, SETUP! And the media always portrays someone as a bad person when he didn’t think anything was wrong because she didn’t open the door so he went in to check on her and got killed because of it,” one Facebook user commented on the matter.

Police are still investigating the fatal shooting. More information will be released as it becomes available.
