Local school district mourns death of long-time school board member after accident in Florida

A local school district mourns the death of a long-time school board member.

The Avella Area School District announced that Corey McConn, a member and president of the school board, died in an accident while on vacation in Florida.

“Corey McConn’s commitment to our district was unwavering. His leadership and dedication over the years contributed significantly to the progress and success of our schools. He had a passion for education and deeply valued our community. He always strived to make a positive impact,” the school district said in a statement.

According to the Avella School District website, McConn served in the school district for 22 years. He actively served as board president and his term expired in 2025.
