Metro brothers remember their parents who died in tragic car accident

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — An Oklahoma City couple was killed when they were hit by a semi-truck, leaving behind three sons, including one who was being cared for by his parents.

Javier Ocampo and Reyna Pallares were driving on US-81 on June 14 when they were struck by a semi-trailer truck.

Debris and parts of her car are still scattered on the highway.

Her three sons Jessie, Matthew and Emmy Pallares are still processing the news.

“You immediately get a feeling in your stomach that something is wrong,” said Jessie. “It’s just the worst feeling in the world.”

Emmy was born physically disabled and relies on a wheelchair and regular medical care; he spent most of his time with his parents.

“We have to adapt to the new normal, move on and take care of him,” Matthew said.

Jessie and Matthew said they will now join forces and do whatever is necessary for Emmy.

“Helping our brother, especially, is one of the most important things that keeps us going day after day,” Matthew said.

Reyna and Javier immigrated from Mexico and worked hard to provide a better life for their family, leaving traces of that hard work even here in Oklahoma City.

Javier helped build the legendary Skydance Bridge.

“Every Oklahoman has been there, seen it and seen its work,” Jessie said.

Reyna taught English to children at Linwood Elementary in OKC.

“She touched so many lives, so many children,” Matthew said.

The three brothers now stick together to honor their parents forever.

“Our parents would of course have expected us to be strong and carry on,” Matthew said.

The family also lost their car, which served as the primary means of transportation for Emmy and his wheelchair.

They have set up a GoFundMe page. If you would like to donate, click here.
