Police arrest Barre woman after she attacked family with shovel at Ferrisburgh campsite

A Barre woman was arrested and faces multiple charges after she attacked her family at a Ferrisburgh campground and damaged their property before driving off on a motorcycle, state police said. At around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, troopers were called to the campground on Basin Harbor Road for a family dispute, according to VSP. Middlebury Regional Emergency Services also arrived at the scene. During their investigation, state police found that 30-year-old Maria Trudeau used a metal shovel to attempt to seriously injure two family members. State police say Trudeau also damaged property belonging to the victims and tried to stop them from calling 911. Trudeau reportedly left the campground on a motorcycle before troopers arrived at the scene. She was eventually found on VT Route 125 in the town of Addison and showed signs of impairment, according to authorities. Trudeau was then arrested by state police and taken to New Haven Barracks for processing. Trudeau was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated domestic violence, obstructing access to emergency services and two counts of criminal damage to property. She was held without bail at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. Trudeau is due to appear in Addison County Superior Court tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

According to VSP, police were called to the campground on Basin Harbor Road around 9 a.m. Sunday on a report of a family dispute.

Middlebury Regional Emergency Services also arrived at the scene.

During their investigation, state police found that 30-year-old Maria Trudeau had attempted to seriously injure two family members with a metal shovel.

According to state police, Trudeau also caused property damage to the victims and tried to prevent them from calling 911.

Trudeau reportedly left the campsite on a motorcycle before police arrived at the scene.

She was eventually found on VT Route 125 in the town of Addison and was showing signs of impairment, according to authorities.

Trudeau was subsequently arrested by state police and taken to the New Haven Barracks for processing.

Trudeau was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated domestic violence, obstructing access to emergency services and two counts of malicious damage to property.

She was ordered held without bail at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. Trudeau is due to appear in Addison County Superior Court tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
