Rescue workers arrived at around 4 a.m. and took Hamric to hospital, where he later died. His two friends suffered minor injuries.

An investigation by the fire department found that electrical currents were present in the water in which the teenager died. Police concluded that these were caused by stray voltages emanating from a boat dock at a nearby private home.

There is no suspicion of third-party negligence in the death.

Hamric is from Steamboat Springs and was visiting friends with his family at the time of the strange accident.
