Beryl Impact: Houston Hospitals Announce Plans for Monday, July 8

Beryl is expected to hit Houston with tropical storm-force winds and torrential rains on Monday, prompting medical facilities to announce closures or reduced hours.

HOUSTON — As Beryl heads toward the Texas coast, several outpatient medical facilities in Houston and elsewhere are reducing operations and services on Monday, July 8.

All hospitals in the region will remain open for emergencies.

Hermann Memorial

Due to inclement weather, some Memorial Hermann locations will be open late, closed, or offering virtual tours only on Monday, July 8.

For patients who have scheduled appointments with Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation during this time, please contact the Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Central Scheduling Department at (713) 521-0020 Or (888) 301-8477.

Patients who have scheduled appointments with Memorial Hermann Medical Group and Memorial Hermann Imaging Centers during this time will be contacted to reschedule their appointments.

Patients who have scheduled appointments with Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Associates during this time will be contacted to reschedule their appointment. If you need further assistance, please call (713) 704-7100.

Harris Health

Harris Health Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson hospitals will remain open and provide emergency medical services throughout the storm. Hospitals are not equipped to accommodate individuals who are not admitted as patients. Anyone seeking shelter at a hospital will be redirected or transported to a local shelter, as available.

Harris Health will close all outpatient and clinic services on Monday, July 8, prior to Beryl, for the safety of patients and staff. Patients with appointments are being notified of the closures and rescheduling options.

Methodist Hospital

As of Sunday afternoon, all Houston Methodist locations remained open and patients were safe, the hospital system said on its website. Doctors, nurses and staff are prepared for nearly any scenario. Houston Methodist has comprehensive extreme weather policies and practices in place to ensure the safety of patients and employees is their top priority. Staff are trained to handle situations like this and said they will do everything possible to minimize disruptions.

Patients will be contacted by their physician if their appointments are canceled or moved to virtual visits. Decisions regarding elective surgeries for Monday will be made tonight.

MD Anderson

MDA outpatient clinics, including imaging, labs, infusions and radiation therapy, at all locations will open at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 8.

MD Anderson is rescheduling morning appointments. Texas Medical Center surgeries and procedures will have delayed start times. Affected patients will be contacted by a member of their care team or clinic and scheduling updates will be reflected in MyChart. Specific questions and concerns can be addressed through MyChart.

There may be additional delays throughout the day due to the storm’s impact on schedules.

Employees should contact their supervisors if they have specific questions or concerns about scheduling or personal arrangements.

Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center

For the safety of our Veterans and staff, the Houston VA Medical Center will be closed for outpatient appointments on Monday, July 8, along with clinics in Beaumont, Conroe, Humble, Katy, Richmond, Sugar Land, and Tomball. Clinics in Lake Jackson, Galveston, and Texas City will be closed on July 8 and 9.

Veterans with appointments will be called to reschedule or provide virtual care. Veterans with medical questions can call the Clinical Contact Center at 713-794-8985.

Staff working in these areas are not required to report to work tomorrow. Employees with questions should contact their supervisor.

UTMB

Please note that all classes scheduled for Monday, July 8 have been cancelled due to Tropical Storm Beryl.

Baylor College of Medicine

Baylor College of Medicine and its clinics will open at noon on Monday, July 8. Patients will be notified directly of rescheduled appointments.

Legacy Community Health Clinic

Legacy Community Health Clinics will close on Monday, July 8 due to Tropical Storm Beryl in the area.

All telehealth appointments will continue as scheduled on Monday.

Patients with appointments scheduled when clinics are closed will be proactively contacted by clinic staff to reschedule their appointments.
