Avoyelles man arrested for murder of senior citizen

Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana (WNTZ) – A Marksville man was arrested over the weekend in connection with the shooting death of his 76-year-old grandfather, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday.

Zachary Stephen Bullitt, 26, is accused of first-degree murder in the death of 76-year-old Nellie Whitstine Rousseau of Marksville, authorities said. Bullitt is also charged with obstruction of justice.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that the homicide was reported Saturday afternoon.

The investigations are still ongoing.

The sheriff’s office noted in its announcement that individuals named or shown in photographs and/or videos as suspects in a criminal case, or who have been arrested and charged with a crime, have not yet been convicted of that crime and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
