Shooting and traffic brawl in Maryland leaves one dead and three injured

TANEYTOWN, Maryland (WHTM) – A man is being held in jail without bail after police say he shot another man in a road rage fight near the Pennsylvania border.

The incident occurred on July 4 at around 10 p.m. at the corner of Bear Run Road and Runnymede Road near Taneytown, Maryland, about seven miles from Pennsylvania.

Officers with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a road rage incident with shots fired.

Officers said Davon Dabbs, 20, of Taneytown exited one vehicle with a passenger while Christopher Moore, 36, of Taneytown exited a second vehicle. A verbal argument between the three then turned physical.

Moore’s fiancée, a 33-year-old woman, arrived with a legal handgun in her possession, hoping to deescalate the situation while Moore was being attacked. Instead, police say, Dabbs lunged at her and tried to take the gun from her.

Dabbs was shot in the left leg during the scuffle and gained control of the gun, firing several shots. Moore was struck and killed, while Dabbs’ passenger was struck in the hand.

Moore’s fiancée suffered injuries, including a broken jaw, after Dabbs punched her in the face multiple times, according to police. Dabbs was arrested Saturday and charged with manslaughter and assault. He was held without bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6 in Carroll County District Court.
