Person barricades himself after ‘gun incident’ at Ocean Lakes Family Campground

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An incident at a Grand Strand campground that may have involved weapons resulted in one person barricading themselves Sunday night.

Horry County Police said officers were on scene at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground. Police first posted information about the incident on their Facebook page around 7:30 p.m. It is unclear what type of gun incident was involved.

In an update posted nearly an hour later, HCPD urged residents and visitors to stay away from the area. In a statement, Ocean Lakes Family Campground also asked people to avoid the area, saying they “appreciate your understanding and cooperation in avoiding this area while emergency personnel work to resolve the situation.”

The agency added that several units were on site, including members of the SWAT team, as well as drone, negotiation, bomb disposal and canine squads.

When asked for more information, a Horry County spokesperson referred WMBF News to the HCPD’s Facebook post and said subsequent updates would be posted there.

Horry County Fire Department crews are also on standby.
