Ahmedabad: The serene river bank turned into a scene of tragedy late on Saturday when a speeding car hit a motorcyclist and dragged him fatally for about 500 m along the road near Picnic House. Harshad Parmar, a 37-year-old resident of Sahaj Residency on IOC Road in Chandkheda and an employee of a car showroom on Ashram Road, was riding his motorcycle with his friend Hardik Amin after setting up a stage and tent for Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra in Raikhad. According to Amin, the car collided with Harshad’s motorcycle and continued driving despite Harshad being trapped under it. Amin, who was riding another motorcycle, chased the car for about 500 m until he found Harshad lying on the road with his motorcycle. According to police, the motorist fled towards Airport Road. Harshad was rushed to Civil Hospital in Asarwa where he was declared brought dead. The B Division Traffic Police registered a complaint of negligent homicide against an unknown driver under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation.
