Security guard given suspended sentence for attacking unarmed customer

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Martin Sandoval was working as a security guard at Walgreens when he attacked an unarmed customer, who then suffered a seizure. On Thursday, Sandoval was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Sandoval pleaded guilty in April to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In October 2023, Sandoval was working at Walgreens near Central and Eubank when he asked two people outside the store to leave. They told him they were waiting for a prescription. Sandoval left and returned later. He told them again that they were loitering, then attacked one of them with a baton, hitting a man in the head. The man fell to the ground and then suffered a seizure.

As part of the plea deal, Judge Lucy Solimon sentenced Sandoval to 18 months of supervised probation. If he successfully completes his probation, the charges will be expunged from his record.
