Nigerian rapist Oladip Oshodi sentenced to 25 years in prison in London

Nigerian Oladip Oshodi was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a series of violent crimes, including the rape of a woman who escaped by jumping out of a window.

Oshodi, 48, was sentenced on Friday, July 5, after being found guilty of two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threatening to kill, causing grievous bodily harm and controlling and exerting coercive behaviour.

The verdict was handed down at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The Metropolitan Police reported that Oshodi was arrested by detectives from the East Area Public Protection Unit on July 12, 2023.

He remained in custody throughout the trial and was found guilty of all counts on May 10, 2024.

The horrific events that led to Oshodi’s conviction occurred on the evening of July 11, 2023.

Oshodi made sexual advances to a woman he knew at his home in the Mayesbrook district of Dagenham.

PLATFORM TIMES learnt that despite the victim’s clear refusal, he was raped twice and brutally beaten by Oshodi that night.

It was further reported that the victim jumped out of a ground floor window in a desperate attempt to get to safety and collapsed in the middle of the street.

According to reports, passersby quickly came to her aid, called the police and ensured her safety until emergency services arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and received ongoing care from specialist officers.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee described Oshodi as a dangerous person and expressed relief that he no longer posed a threat to women.

She praised the victim’s courage and the witnesses’ quick action.

“It is right that Oshodi must now serve a long prison sentence in a place where he cannot harm women.

“The courage of the victim and witnesses in this case is commendable,” McGhee said.

According to McGhee, Oshodi showed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial.

She added: “I am glad that he has to face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer who works with victims of sexual offences, highlighted the desperate situation faced by survivors, noting: “The survivor in this case was running for her life when she jumped into the road to escape this man.”

She expressed hope that the verdict against Oshodi would encourage other victims of sexual crimes to come forward and give them the reassurance of the police who would support them and ensure their safety.

Grafton added: “We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and be with you every step of the way.”
