LCPD: Man arrested after fatal stabbing over the weekend

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 51-year-old man believed to be responsible for a fatal stabbing early Saturday morning, July 6, in Las Cruces has been arrested and charged with murder, the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) announced on its Facebook page.

According to LCPD, 51-year-old William Clyde Turner is charged with murder.


According to LCPD, Las Cruces police and fire departments responded to a stabbing shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the 800 block of Avenida de Mesilla.

The victim, later identified as 30-year-old Carlos Joseph Lakemper, was found to have at least one stab wound to his back, according to LCPD.

According to LCPD, Lakemper was first taken to MountainView Regional Medical Center and then to University Medical Center (UMC) of El Paso.

According to LCPD, Lakemper succumbed to his injuries shortly before 10 a.m. at UMC.

The LCPD said a witness identified the suspect, against whom police have filed charges.

Turner was taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
