Matthew Perry’s death could result in manslaughter charges

Matthew Perry’s drug-related death is reportedly set to be discussed at a police press conference, with possible charges including manslaughter.

The “Friends” star was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023 at the age of 54. An autopsy revealed he had died from the “acute effects of ketamine” – and in June, police sources said several people were expected to face charges in connection with the actor’s death.

Page Six reports that the actor’s death “may now expose the dark side of the Hollywood drug trade.”

The newspaper added that the Los Angeles Police Department, which is leading the criminal investigation into Perry’s death along with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, “is preparing a press conference to announce possible charges that could include manslaughter.”

Page Six said it had “learned the identity of an actress involved in the investigation.”

They said the unnamed woman was a “B-list star” who “was very close to Perry for many years.”

Page Six added that police may have targeted the actress’ cellphone. A source also told InTouch magazine, “I’m 100 percent sure the feds will find the text messages between the two, which will reveal a lot of information that could help their investigation.”

Former CIA and FBI special agent Tracy Walder told Page Six that multiple people could face charges because there has been a huge increase in drug rings engaging in mail fraud and sending prescription drugs through the mail – a federal offense.

She said: “The question is intent. They obviously knew what they were doing (dealing drugs) was wrong.”

“But did you really know that obtaining this material would kill him?”

Walder added that a manslaughter charge is possible, which can result in a prison sentence of up to five years, but that a murder charge cannot be brought because Matthew chose to take the ketamine that killed him.
