Savannah Bananas sell out Buffalo’s Sahlen Field

This weekend, Buffalo fans packed Sahlen Field for a different kind of baseball: Banana Ball, to be exact.

“When I say Savannah, you say Banana,” the Savannah Bananas cast members shouted from the field.

“Banana Ball is not like baseball, it’s a whole different vibe,” said Maceo Harrison, the Bananas’ first base dance coach. “It’s faster. It’s more dynamic. It’s more entertaining.”

“It’s all about entertaining the fans and keeping the energy up,” team owner Jesse Cole said. “So they’re going to see things they’ve probably never seen before on a baseball field.”

The team brought with it a fan base that stretched from Texas to Buffalo.

“We’ve been to a lot of Bananas events,” said fan Brett Losier. “We’ve been to Grayson Stadium. We’ve seen them in Houston. (And we’ve seen them) here now.”

This weekend’s series featured three of 19 total games for Banana Ball’s new team, the Firefighters, and the teams sold out Sahlen Field every night.

“It’s really cool to see everyone in one place for the entire event,” said Fire Department Receiver Zachary Bridges. “Buffalo brought energy all weekend.”

For some fans, the best part is the spectacle.

“They do crazy tricks and they do dances, like TikTok dances,” fan Chase Gray said.

But for fans like Adelyn Losier, her favorite role isn’t Bananas or Firefighters.

“I can yell that,” Losier said, not really caring who wins the game, but having fun. “It doesn’t matter,” she said.
