Mesa police say woman attacked three police officers

INDEPENDENT NEWS MEDIA

A 27-year-old woman was arrested after police accused her of attacking three police officers on Saturday evening.

Alaijia Yasmien James is charged with, among other things, aggravated assault on a police officer, according to court records from the Mesa Police Department.

Just before 10 p.m. on July 6, a Mesa officer responded to a call about a residential burglary in the 500 block of South Extension Road, where she encountered the suspect, who said she did not live there, records show.

The officer attempted to approach the suspect, who “clenched her fist, clamped the car keys between her fingers to form a sharp point, and punched the officer in the face several times,” the records state.

The officer suffered injuries to her eye, cheek and mouth.

Two more officers arrived to arrest the suspect — one of whom suffered scratches and the other was kicked in the groin, records say. The suspect was “tasered four times and subjected to control holds” before being taken into custody.
