Savannah Bananas impersonate Bills mob boss in Buffalo series finale

The Savannah Bananas wrapped up their weekend in Western New York on Sunday afternoon, capping off their three-game stint at Sahlen Field with an ESPN-broadcast game in which they once again paid tribute to the Buffalo faithful. The Savannah opponents, the Firefighters, gave a nod to Buffalo Bills fans midway through the game, imitating a Bills Mafia classic by dousing one of their players in ketchup and mustard.

This number was made in reference to Ken Johnston, better known to Buffalo fans as “Pinto Ron.” A long-time Bills mob figure who has received national attention in recent years, Pinto Ron allows fans to stand on a vehicle and shoot him with condiments before every Buffalo home game. The number has become synonymous with the fans’ pregame festivities, a must-see for die-hard fans and passersby alike.

The Bananas paid tribute to Buffalo fans for the first time Friday night, with a Savannah player breaking a table Bills Mafia-style at home plate. The team did it again after winning Sunday’s game.

The team served as a temporary sporting distraction for Buffalo fans while waiting for the Bills’ upcoming training camp, which begins July 24; all three games in Savannah were played in front of sold-out crowds.

For those unaware, the Savannah Bananas are a traveling baseball team that injects humor and extra entertainment options into their games. They have grown exponentially in popularity since their inception in 2016, often performing to sold-out stadiums across the country.

For Buffalo fans looking for a little more Bills-inspired baseball at Sahlen Field, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons will host β€œBuffalo, Mount Up!” on July 20. Popular NFL Network personality and honorary Bills Mafia member Kyle Brandt will be in attendance, throwing out the first pitch and hosting a book signing, with the first 3,000 fans in the stadium receiving a Brandt bobblehead.
