Three people homeless after house fire in Dunkirk, cause under investigation – Southern Maryland News Net

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at approximately 2:02 a.m., firefighters from Calvert and Anne Arundel County were called to the 3400 block of Old Jones Road in Dunkirk to name a burning home.

Firefighters arrived on scene in less than three minutes and found a two-story residential building with an attached one-story garage completely engulfed in flames that had spread to the residential building.

Fortunately, all residents were able to leave the country without injuries.

When crews entered the home, they found the fire burning on the first and second floors and spreading to the attic and roof. Multiple firefighting attacks were used and firefighters extinguished most of the fire within an hour.

Firefighters from Calvert, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel County responded and were on scene for over three hours.

Because the weather was hot and humid, the St. Leonard VFD provided rehabilitation support to units responding to the fire scene.

No known injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the three homeless residents. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire. Police and SMECO assisted the fire department.
