Shark involved in attack on South Padre Island safely brought to the deep sea

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) – Texas Parks and Wildlife has released new details about the shark that attacked several people on South Padre Island.

State and local authorities helped locate the shark and return it safely to deeper waters.

According to Captain Dowdy of Texas Parks and Wildlife, South Padre Island and Cameron County park officials harnessed the shark to herd it toward the ocean.

The shark was neither injured nor physically harmed during the attempt to get it back into the sea and away from the piers.

Dowdy adds that the shark attack was unusual and likely due to weather changes in anticipation of Hurricane Beryl.

He assured that additional ships would be ready on the coast in case of an emergency.

Texas Parks and Wildlife believes the shark will be classified as a bull shark.

Two people are still in hospital after the attack.
