18-year-old arrested in connection with Juneteenth shooting in Round Rock

Three weeks after a shooting at a Juneteenth celebration on June 15 that left two people dead and 14 injured, Round Rock police have arrested a third suspect, law enforcement said Saturday evening.

Keshawn Dixon, 18, was arrested Saturday in Killeen and charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony. Additional charges are possible, Round Rock police said. Dixon is being held in the Bell County Jail but is expected to be transferred to the Williamson County Jail at an unknown date, police spokeswoman Melanie Forcier confirmed.

The department is following up on further leads on other suspects, it said.

Ricky Thompson III, 18, a student at Manor Senior High School, and a young man were arrested within days of each other. Thompson is facing charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police Chief Allen Banks said he had “no indication” Thompson was a gang member. Police refused to identify the second suspect or his charges, saying only that he is under 17 and being held in juvenile detention. No murder charges have been filed so far, although police are not ruling out that possibility, Banks said at a news conference after Thompson’s arrest.

Community members gather to mourn the death of Lyndsey Vicknair during a candlelight vigil at Web Middle School on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Vicknair was one of two people killed and 14 others injured in a Juneteenth mass shooting in Round Rock, Texas.

The shooting broke out after two groups got into an argument and pulled out guns, police said. Killed were 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair of Manor, an attorney at an Austin law firm and mother of three, and 54-year-old Ara Duke of Pflugerville, an administrator at IDEA Public Schools and soon-to-be grandmother, their respective families said.
