MESA, Arizona – Three officers were allegedly attacked by a woman in Mesa, the city’s police department said.

On July 6, Mesa Police officers responded to a burglary in the area of Extension and Broadway Road.

An officer asked the person in the apartment, later identified as Alaijia James, if she lived at the apartment and she said no.

James then clenched her fist, clutched her car keys between her fingers, and allegedly punched the officer in the face multiple times. The officer sustained an injury next to her eye and an injury to her cheek, near her mouth and neck. The officer also broke her radio handset and G-Shock watch during the alleged attack.

According to court documents, two additional officers arrived at the scene to assist the first officer. While the officers attempted to arrest James, one of the officers suffered a scratch on his forearm and another was kicked in the groin area.

According to court documents, James was arrested after four taser deployments and stop-and-frisks.

According to court documents, police were unable to question James because she “did not appear to be of sound mind” and did not speak to officers at the scene.

According to court documents, James is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of aggravated assault with a dangerous object and one count of criminal damage.
