Traffic accident in Lakeside claims fatality on bicycle

LAKESIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – A bicyclist was fatally struck by a car on State Route 67 near Lakeside on Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. when a 32-year-old Lakeside man was driving a silver 2021 Chevrolet Trax southbound on SR-67 north of Mapleview Street.


At the same time, according to the CHP, a 52-year-old man, also of Lakeside, was riding his bicycle westbound across the southbound lanes of SR-67. The driver of the Chevrolet reportedly failed to avoid the cyclist and collided with the cyclist.

As a result of the accident, the cyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the accident, according to authorities. The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Officer Jared Grieshaber at (619) 401-2000.
