Two Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants have been shut down due to damage caused by the Russian attacks on May 8, state energy company Ukrhydroenergo reported on May 9.

Russia carried out a large-scale attack on May 8 mainly against the Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kiev and Vinnytsia oblasts targeting energy infrastructure.

“To date, all hydropower generation has suffered devastating damage. Destroyed equipment requires significant efforts and financial resources to repair and restore,” Ukrhydroenergo said opinion read.

According to the energy minister, Russian troops attacked electricity generation and transmission facilities in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia oblasts Hermann Halushchenko.

This was also reported by Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK three thermal power plants was damaged in the attacks on May 8th. The company did not disclose the location of the facilities.

In total, the Ukrainian forces were shot down 39 out of 55 rockets and 20 of 21 drones fired by the Russian military overnight on May 8, the Air Force reported.

Moscow has recently increased its missile and drone attacks against Ukraine critical infrastructureresulting in large-scale attacks on energy facilities across the country March 22March 29th, April 11th, April 27thexcept May 8th.

Speaking to Ukrainska Pravda.Live, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi said the damage caused by the attacks was “quite large”.
