Mumbai News: As heavy rain continues in Mumbai, local train services between Kasara and Titwala railway stations in Thane district of Maharashtra were suspended on Sunday morning. Officials said local train services were suspended following heavy rains and a fallen tree after the tracks were declared unsafe.

At around 6.30 am, heavy train traffic caused soil to wash onto the tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations and a tree fell and blocked the tracks near Vashind station, disrupting train traffic on the busy Kalyan-Kasara route, it said.

“Train services between Kasara and Titwala have been temporarily suspended,” said a Central Railway (CR) spokesperson.

Another CR spokesperson said an overhead line pole was tilted and the pantograph of the Mumbai-bound Punjab Mail train got caught near Vashind.

Restoration work is underway and efforts are being made to clear the tracks as soon as possible, the official said.

According to CR, trains were diverted via Kalyan-Lonavala-Pune-Miraj-Londa-Madgaon route due to floods in the Vasind-Khadavli section.

There are reports of water ingress on the tracks between Vashind and Khadavli stations.

Long-distance trains would be diverted or shortened, it was said.

Local transport is considered the lifeline of Mumbai and its neighbouring areas such as Thane, Palghar and Raigad.

More than 3 million commuters use the CR suburban network every day.
