22-year-old arrested for reckless driving and assault on Theo Fremd Avenue

On Friday, a 22-year-old man was arrested on Theodore Fremd Avenue in Rye on charges including reckless driving and assault.

After failing to comply with a traffic stop, Wilver Hiraldo of Norwalk, Connecticut, was observed riding an unregistered moped northbound on Theodore Fremd Avenue. As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Hiraldo accelerated around stopped traffic and drove into the oncoming lane to elude officers.

Hiraldo then drove his moped onto the sidewalk of Theodore Fremd Avenue, where a police officer on foot was able to pull Hiraldo from the moped to the ground. After briefly resisting arrest, Hiraldo was taken into custody.

A Rye PD officer was treated for injuries sustained during the arrest and released from Greenwich Hospital. Wilver Hiraldo was transported to Rye Police Department, processed and charged with: Unlawful Fleeing of an Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree – (Misdemeanor); Reckless Driving – (Misdemeanor); Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree – (Misdemeanor); Resisting Arrest – (Misdemeanor); Assault 2nd Degree – (Felony).

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, Hiraldo was transported to the White Plains Courthouse where he was arraigned and released on his own bond. Hiraldo’s next court date is Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in Rye City Court.
