Dagenham man raped and beat woman after she rejected his advances

A Dagenham man raped and beat a woman after she rejected his sexual advances. To escape her attacker, the woman jumped from a ground floor window into the street.

Oladip Oshodi, 48, made sexual advances to the woman he knew at his home in Mayesbrook, Dagenham. The woman made it clear he did not want to have sex with him, but that night Oshodi raped her twice.

Oshodi not only raped the woman but also beat her so badly that she jumped out of the window to save herself. When she reached the street, she collapsed and was carried to safety by concerned passers-by on the street.

The police were called and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment. Oshodi was arrested the following day in July and has been in custody since then.

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer for victims of sexual offences, said: “The survivor in this case ran for her life and jumped into the road to escape the man.

“I hope the verdict encourages other women who have been victims of sexual assault to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and support you every step of the way.”

Oshodi appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday 5 July where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for two counts of rape, administering a harmful substance, threatening to kill, grievous bodily harm and controlling coercive behaviour.
