According to the Business Standard, the last time the country experienced such a brutal shark attack was in 1934.

Shark experts believe the increase in attacks is due to the ongoing climate crisis.

Here are some of the most gruesome shark attacks.

The one-minute video shows the woman lying in the sand while the predator swims back and forth near the shore.

Rescue workers rush to her aid and try to stop the bleeding from a wound on her leg.

Blood can be seen in the waves. The victim appears to be in shock after the attack.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA – January 1974

Terrance Manuel was diving for abalone in Streaky Bay when a shark attacked him shortly after 1 p.m. and bit off his leg above the thigh.

John Talbot, Manuel’s friend, tried to save him, but could not prevent the attack and instead had to watch as Manuel bled to death in the water.

What to do if you see a shark in the water?

Below is a helpful guide on what to do if you find yourself in the water near a shark

  • Stay calm
  • When fishing, release any bait attached to your rod.
  • Evade
  • Form a team with other swimmers who might be nearby
  • Be prepared for a possible fight
  • If you have to fight a shark, aim for sensitive body parts

When rescue workers arrived at the scene four days later, they found 579 dead men, many of whom had been bitten to death.

One of the 316 survivors said: “The sharks were there, hundreds of them… Everything was quiet, and then you heard someone scream and you knew a shark had got him.”

NEW JERSEY – 1916

A series of shark attacks along the New Jersey coast during a heat wave in 1916 left four people dead.

The first victim, 25-year-old Charles Vansant, bled to death after sharks ripped the flesh from his thigh while he was swimming in the early evening.

Five days later, 27-year-old Charles Bruder was killed after a shark ripped open his stomach and severed his legs.

On July 12, two people were killed by a shark when 12-year-old Lester Stillwell was dragged underwater while splashing in the creek with friends.

24-year-old Stanley Fisher jumped into the water to search for Stillwell, but was himself attacked by the shark and bled to death.
