Drunk driving: Woman dies in Mumbai when BMW driven by Sena leader’s son crashes into motorcycle; third incident in Maharashtra

In the third such drunk driving incident in Maharashtra within two months, a 45-year-old woman died in Mumbai on Saturday when a speeding BMW crashed into a motorcycle.

The incident occurred as part of the ongoing investigation into the Pune-Porsche case, in which two software developers were killed when an intoxicated youth hit a bicycle in the Kalyani Nagar area of ​​the city.

— The deceased woman was identified as Kaveri Nakhwa (45 years), a resident of Worli Koliwada.

— The incident occurred around 5.30 am near Atria Mall in Koliwada area of ​​Worli when Kaveri and her husband Pradik were returning from Sassoon Dock.

– Kaveri, the deceased, was dragged on the bonnet of the car for about 100 metres before being thrown onto the road.

Reacting to the incident, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Worli MP Aaditya Thackeray said they had been constantly discussing the driving style and discipline of Mumbai motorists.

— Oncoming traffic, ignoring signals, driving over triple cabins… all these things have increased in Mumbai, which were not there before!

— Hit-and-runs are now becoming more common.

“Even if the person responsible for the accident is arrested immediately, it is important that such incidents do not happen again. To do this, we must go beyond politics and improve this situation!”

Third incident in two months

Pune: On May 13, a Porsche driven by the 17-year-old son of a prominent contractor collided with a motorcycle, killing two IT professionals. The bail and 300-word essay sentence imposed on a juvenile accused, who was allegedly drunk, led to massive uproar in the state. Following this, his bail was revoked and he was sent to an observation home. A few days ago, the juvenile accused was released by the Supreme Court. As part of the bail conditions, he also submitted a 300-word essay on road safety.

Nagpur: A similar incident occurred in Nagpur on May 25, when a suspected drunk driver hit people at high speed, injuring seven people, including a three-month-old baby. Liquor bottles and marijuana were reportedly found in his car.
