Hong Kong police arrest 13-year-old boy and 19-year-old man for stealing minibus

A 13-year-old and a 19-year-old were arrested for the alleged theft of a Hong Kong minibus; police are also searching for another juvenile suspect.

Police said on Sunday that the boy and the young man were arrested on suspicion of driving without a license and third-party insurance and driving a means of transport without authorization. The third suspect is said to be a 15-year-old boy.

A minibus driver surnamed Shum reported the vehicle missing at around 7am after finding it was no longer where it was parked on Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok.

Officers later found the minibus about 30 kilometers away on Choi Yuen Road near Sheung Shui subway station and arrested the couple nearby. The third suspect was believed to have left before police arrived.

According to police, no alcohol was detected during tests during the arrests and no injuries were reported.

In January this year, police arrested one of two suspects in connection with a HK$250,000 robbery. Officers found a car that the pair allegedly stole from the victims before crashing it into a lamppost and abandoning it in the New Territories.

In December last year, police also arrested three men on suspicion of orchestrating a car theft worth HK$28 million.
