Two teenagers die, another is hospitalized

BIG LAKE, Minnesota – Authorities are investigating an early morning crash that left two people dead and another seriously injured in Sherburne County.

At around 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, three teenagers from Elk River were driving north on Highway 25 in Big Lake, Minnesota, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A Big Lake police officer traveling south noticed the vehicle speeding and made a U-turn to stop it, but when he finally caught up with the vehicle, he found that it had left the road, overturned and crashed.

The 17-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger died at the scene of the accident.

The other 17-year-old passenger is at Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries.

All three were wearing seat belts.

It is not known whether alcohol played a role.
