Selma City Schools hires former police chief Natasha Fowlkes as SRO | Education

Former Selma Police Deputy Chief Natasha Fowlkes has joined Selma City Schools as the third School Resource Officer.

The city school system announced on social media that Fowlkes is filling the last of three security guard positions hired to help monitor and ensure safety at the schools.

Fowlkes resigned from her post as Selma’s deputy police chief on July 2 after being placed on leave for a month while she was investigated for possible misconduct. Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said in a statement that she had been cleared of the allegations that led to her leave.

Selma City Schools said they hired her because she had “an outstanding, nearly 20-year career in local law enforcement,” including serving as the first African-American deputy chief of the Selma Police Department.

“We would like to welcome Ms. Fowlkes and look forward to her dedicated service in ensuring the safety of our students, teachers, administrators and staff,” the school district said.
