Batavia woman identified as driver in fatal 2023 hit-and-run crash in Wheaton – Shaw Local

A Batavia woman has been identified as the driver in a fatal 2023 crash on Roosevelt Road in Wheaton, authorities said.

Tarra Fiedler, 31, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to a news release from Wheaton police.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on January 2, 2023, Paige Donahue, 31, was struck and killed by a car in the eastbound lane of Roosevelt Road near Crest Street. According to the release, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after fatally striking Donahue.

Wheaton police have been investigating the crash for the past 16 months. Authorities said there were several public calls for help, but they provided no further information to identify the vehicle and driver involved.

However, in recent weeks, Wheaton investigators made a breakthrough in the investigation after receiving results from electronic search warrants and an advanced analysis of the physical evidence left at the scene from the vehicle involved, authorities said.

The extensive investigation revealed that the vehicle allegedly involved was a Hyundai Tucson and the alleged driver of the vehicle was Fielder.

Fiedler cooperated with investigators and provided a statement with additional details about the night of the fatal crash, the release said.

The DuPage County District Attorney’s Office conducted a comprehensive review of the facts and circumstances, including Fiedler’s statement and the evidence in this accident investigation, the release said. No further criminal charges will be filed at this time, authorities said.
