Following heavy rains, train services in Mumbai have been suspended on a section of the suburban network; full update here

Local train services between Kasara and Titwala railway stations in Thane district bordering Mumbai in Maharashtra state were suspended on Sunday morning following heavy rains and a fallen tree.

As reported by PTI Quoting officials, it said, “At around 6.30 am, heavy trains dumped soil on the tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations and a fallen tree blocked the tracks near Vashind station, disrupting train services on the busy Kalyan-Kasara route.”

“Train services between Kasara and Titwala have been temporarily suspended,” said a Central Railway (CR) spokesperson.

The tracks were declared unsafe around 6:30 a.m., the official said.

Another Central Railway spokesman said an overhead line mast had fallen over, catching the pantograph of a train near Vashind.

Efforts to restore normality are underway and teams are working diligently to clear the tracks quickly, the official said.

Local transport is vital for Mumbai and neighbouring regions like Thane, Palghar and Raigad and serves as a lifeline for commuters. Over 300,000 passengers use the Central Railway’s local transport network every day.

What IMD says…

Moderate to heavy rain showers occurred in Mumbai and surrounding areas on Sunday morning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that these conditions will continue throughout the day in the city and its suburbs.

Light to moderate rains with occasional thunderstorms are expected in Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) over the next week. These welcome rainfalls follow a very hot and humid summer that has brought temperatures in the city down significantly.
