Man sentenced to 60 years in prison for rape – The Southern Eye

A 30-year-old man from Chiredzi has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for raping a primary school student and another 42-year-old woman.

The man, who hails from Chief Nyakunhuwa area of ​​Zaka, appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrate’s Court and was charged with five counts of rape.

The court heard that the convicted man allegedly attacked the 13-year-old at an unknown time, but at 12 noon in April 2021, near her homestead while she was collecting firewood.

He threw the girl to the ground, pulled out a knife and raped her.

In June 2021, he repeated the sexual assault after threatening to kill her.

The girl was raped on two more occasions.

In September 2021, the convicted man raped the 42-year-old woman at knifepoint in a bush area.

The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for each count of rape.

However, he will serve 30 years of his sentence, with the remaining years suspended.
