Man arrested and charged in Warren hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian

WARREN, Mich. – A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Warren.

The accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 11 Mile and Hoover streets. According to police, a 65-year-old man from Warren was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck and was seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police said they identified the truck as a black 2020 Ram truck, which they found parked and unoccupied in a storage lot in Shelby Township on Monday, May 6. The owner of the Ram was reportedly out of state at the time of the accident and police were able to connect a 35-year-old man who lived in the area to the accident.

The next day, Tuesday, May 7, police made contact with the suspected driver, who reportedly confirmed to investigators that he was involved in the accident.

Savion Jones was charged Thursday, May 9, with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. Police said he had a previous conviction for fraud and was charged as a regular second-time offender. His bail was set at $200,000 cash/surety.

He will be required to wear a GPS tether upon release.

Jones is scheduled to return to court on May 23.
