A St. Louis man was seriously injured in a one-car crash on Highway 21 south of the Tree Ridge Trail south of Hillsboro early Thursday morning, July 4, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 2:44 a.m., 65-year-old Jeffrey A. York of St. Louis was driving a 2003 Ford Escape north on the highway when he ran off the right side of the road, causing the SUV to strike a metal culvert before becoming airborne and rolling over. York was ejected and the vehicle struck a tree, the report said.

York was taken by ambulance from Valle to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where his condition was assessed Friday afternoon, July 5, a hospital spokesman said.

He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, the patrol reported.

The SUV was a total loss, the report said.
